Purdue defeats Austin Peay
Veterans Day 2022 was our First time seeing Purdue play this season and here are our takeaways
-Purdue recruits system players as well as anyone in the country. They lost several talented players off the roster from last year. They replaced those players with a couple of Freshmen and a redshirt freshman. Coach Matt Painter said, “They young guys get it and they just need to get different experience against different teams and players. They will learn those lessons over these first 8 or 9 games.” Fletcher Loyer, Braden Smith and Trey Kaufmann- Renn all will be very valuable this year and for years to come
-Purdue will have a say in the BIG 10 race because they guard. Zach Edey is a force inside as a rim protector and rebounder. The wings play great pressure defense and in this game forced many late shot clock shots from Austin Peay. Not sure they win the conference but believe that will be a tough out and be a team likely to make the NCAA tournament
– Coach Matt Painter one of the best coaches in the country. He understands his roster and how to get guys to buy in to Purdue Basketball. They did not shoot well tonight, but Coach was happy with the defensive effort saying, “There will be nights when shots don’t go in and you will need to play solid defense and I felt we did so tonight.”
Purdue will host Marquette next Tuesday in their Gavitt Games contest.
