Purdue closes out dominant regular season with tough, physical matchup.

Purdue survived two first half injury scares with stars Zach Edey and Braden Smith both going down with turned ankles. Both injuries looked scary at first, but Edey and Smith both returned to action shortly and showed no ill effects from their injuries.

Purdue led comfortably with double-digit leads throughout the first half, but Wisconsin made a second half charge to cut the lead to four points midway through the second half.

Zach Edey had his normal dominant double-double performance but got help from Fletcher Loyer, Lance Jones, and Braden Smith who also scored in double figures.

Purdue outrebounded Wisconsin 36 to 27.

Wisconsin shot 43% including only 5 of 24 from the 3-point line.

Purdue scored 14 fast break points to Wisconsin’s 2.

Braden Smith scored a near triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds.

What it means

Purdue is a lock as the #1 overall seed for the NCAA tournament. Should be in Midwest Region (Indianapolis/Detroit).

Wisconsin looks to be the 5-seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will play Thursday versus the winner of the Rutgers-Maryland game. Wisconsin is also currently projected as a 6-seed in the NCAA tournament.

Other Notables

In the senior day celebrations, Purdue unveiled the All-American banner for Zach Edey. Purdue also honored Edey, family and guests by playing the Canadian National Anthem before the game.
