West Virginia defeats Kansas
Hello and welcome back to another edition of upset of the week. There were two good candidates for upset of the week. An honorable mention goes out to the Michigan vs Wisconsin game which ended with Wisconsin on top. This week we have picked what might be the biggest upset of this season, West Virginia vs Kansas. This was a stellar game that ended with a bang, the Jayhawks fell to the unranked Mountaineers. This game took place at West Virginia and will go as a quad 2 loss for Kansas.
This was a great game that went back and forth the whole way, going into half it was tied 23 – 23. In the second half it was headed the same way, with the final score only being decided by 1 point. The attack from West Virginia was spread out, everyone on their team had a points except one bench player. Esa Ahmad led the charge with 7 rebounds, 3 assist, and 8 points. Don’t be fooled though, the bench players had a huge impact on the outcome of the game, with Derek Culver had 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 11 points. The ability to keep up with Kansas with their bench was a big part of the win, and would have been very improbable without it. Still Deitrick Lawson tried his best to keep Kansas in it with 11 rebounds, and 15 points. This is a huge loss for Kansas and will have a lasting impact on their seed. We have since moved them from a 1 seed to a 2, and with this loss of momentum it could mean a spiraling Jayhawks team.
