NFL Preseason Rankings
#1 – New Orleans Saints – Going in this season, the Saints are a team that looks vengeful. After the dreadful ending to last years season, they are still one of the most well rounded teams in the NFL. Drew Brees is going into his 14th season with some of the best offensive weapons he has ever had. With Alvin Kamara running the ball out of the backfield, the Saints can expect to see Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn getting open deep down the field quite a bit.
#2 – Los Angeles Rams – Coming off a heartbreaking defeat in the super bowl last year, the Rams will be looking to improve and perform in those big situations. Their offense continues to be strong and dominant as Todd Gurley, Jared Goff, and Brandin Cooks return. The defense is looking better than ever, with stars such as Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh holding down the trenches. In the backfield, Aqib Talib, Lamarcus Joyner, and Marcus Peters will look to make their field a no fly zone and shut down the passing attack from opposing offenses.
#3 – New England Patriots – As per usual, the Patriots hold down a top five spot in this years rankings even with the loss of Rob Gronkowski, their former star tight end. Entering his 19th season, Tom Brady seems to be looking better every year as he never seems to take effect to his growing age. He will be leading an offense with James White in the backfield with him and get to throw the ball to Julian Edelmen, Josh Gordan, and rookie N’Keal Harry. For the other side of the ball, it seems they will be struggling again as they haven’t made many improvements to last year’s shaky defense. They have only lost players, including Trey Flowers, Patrick Chung, and Adrian Clayborn.
#4 – Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs are betting big time on sophomore QB Patrick Mahomes and their explosive offense ran by head coach, Andy Reid. The offense is comprised of running backs Damien Williams and Lesean Mccoy, with explosive wide receivers such as Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Tightend, Travis Kelce. Continuing the trend from last year, we may see them struggle on the defensive side of the ball as they’ve only lost players and it seems to be a very young team that could be fighting to stop each and every single drive.
#5 – Chicago Bears – Looking into the Bears early season, they will be led by a strong defense as is the usual in Chicago. The defense is lead by players such as Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, and many more players who are ready to get at that Packers offense. The offense may struggle but they’ll be hoping to see Mitch Trubisky go out and show out. For other teams, they should fear the Bear’s defense that shows resemblance to the famous 85 defense.
#6 – Cleveland Browns – The Cleveland Browns are coming out this in a blaze of glory lead by second year quarterback Baker Mayfield. The young star has loaded up his utility belt with star receivers such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Early on in the season, the back field will be headed by running back Nick Chubb, since Kareem Hunt will be suspended until week nine. On the other side of the team the defense is lead by 3rd year defensive end Myles Garrett. Alongside him include stars such as Joe Schobert and Denzel Ward.
#7 – Los Angeles Chargers – This team has been hit with a case similar to the Steelers last year. Running Back, Melvin Gordon has opted to hold out, either looking for a trade or the money he “deserve.” In his place, Austin Ekeler will take over and could become a star if the pieces fall in place. At quarterback, Phillip Rivers is still slinging the ball down field to Kennan Allen and company. The Chargers also see the return of the young tight end, Hunter Henry. The defense is stacked with big name players like Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram III, and Casey Hayward Jr.
#8 – Philadelphia Eagles – Here we are again, early season and the Eagles have Carson Wentz back along with a healthy receiving core in Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz. Over the offseason they picked up former Bears running back, Jordan Howard, who should have a solid season due to the elite passing game.
#9 – Houston Texans – The Texans are an average team with above average players. For this team, they are in a bit of a small rebuilding stage, as they traded away two first round picks for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. Alongside that trade, they got rid of linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who was requesting to be traded. The offense is held up by quarterback, Deshaun Watson and wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins who will be looking to light up the scoreboard in fashion. Of course, as always, the defense is led by J.J. Watts and others who should do a solid job of stuffing the run and shutting down the passing attack.
#10 – Baltimore Ravens – Last but definitely not least, on this list, is the Raven who have one of the most unique offensive attacks in the NFL. Led by Lamar Jackson and held down by heavy hitting RB Mark Ingram, this offense will be a fit for any defense in the NFL. The defense is just as good as last year and probably better since they added safety Earl Thomas III. This team will be a roadblock in the way of any good team and will most likely not give up any free wins.
