Illinois is quickly moving up the seed line to the 5/6 range. Michigan continues to struggle and had Isiah Livers back and still lost at home. Michigan finds itself squarely on the bubble.
LSU– They went on the road for the SEC/BIG 12 challenge to play Texas and came out with a close 69-67 win. The Tigers simply keep winning. They have now won eight straight games. At 15-4 they are a team to watch to make a push for a top 4 seed. Texas is struggling and missed a great opportunity.
OKLAHOMA– The Sooners defeat a bubble team at home to earn a nice quad 2 win. They won 63-62 over Mississippi St to move to 5-6 in quads 1 & 2. The Sooners still have work to do with only one of those wins a quad 1 win.
KENTUCKY– The Wildcats defeat Texas Tech in Lubbock by the score of 74-72 in OT. Kentucky is building a nice resume and will need more wins like this to overcome losses to Evansville & South Carolina. Do not be surprised if Kentucky is in the top 4 protected seed area soon. The Red Raiders continue to play well and lose. Their NET ranking is decent but their overall resume is lacking.
BAYLOR– Being the number one ranked team has been difficult for most teams this year, but Baylor is having little difficulty at the moment holding on to the spot. Going on the road and beating a tournament level team is always good. Baylor wins at Florida 72-61 and maintains the spot at the top of our bracket. The loss for Florida is simply a missed opportunity. The Gators are in a good spot for now.
MICHIGAN ST– Defeating Minnesota on the road 70-52 helps the Spartans regroup after a tough loss on the road earlier in the week. Michigan St is a quality team that should be anywhere from the 2-4 seed range in the next bracket. Minnesota is fighting a large number of losses. They are right on the cut line and need to string a few wins together to earn some breathing room
MARYLAND– The Terps get a road win in the BIG 10 against Indiana. They did so despite giving up a 14 point lead and scoring the last 7 points for a huge victory. Maryland is fighting for seeding at this time of the season. This win keeps them in the top 4 seed line discussion. The Hoosiers would have really solidified their resume if they would have held the six point lead in the last minute. The loss doesn’t harm them, but does make the last six road game more important.
AUBURN-The Tigers hold on at home to beat Iowa St 80-76. Auburn cannot afford bad losses as their resume is light at this time.
VILLANOVA– Go on the road and beat Providence 64-60. The Wildcats resume is solid and are a top 4 seed.
RUTGERS– Hold on at home over a pesky but down Nebraska squad by the score of 75-72. This is a typical loss prevention game for a team trying to move up the seed line. Rutgers is in 6-8 seed range. Yes, we did type that correctly.
ARKANSAS The Razorbacks beat an improving TCU team at home 78-67. Arkansas has an ok resume and wins like this keep them moving in the right direction. Look for them in the 7/8 range this week
DAYTON– This game may have been in the big win category as Dayton has limited opportunities in the A10 to add quad 1 wins. The Flyers now have 3 quad 1 wins and are a tough team to seed. Anywhere from 2-4 is a possibility.
FLORIDA ST– A close game at home is won by the Seminoles 85-84. The win keeps FSU headed in the right direction. A good conference win– yes Coach Brey—- Notre Dame is in the ACC.
SAN DIEGO ST– The Aztecs remain perfect by winning a traditional trap game at UNLV. a nice 71-67 win will keep this team on the top line.
VIRGINIA TECH Loses on the road to Boston College 61-56. With a very poor strength of schedule the Hokies cant afford too many more losses.
MEMPHIS– The Tigers lost at home to SMU 74-70. Memphis record is ok, their resume is struggling. Memphis is clearly on the bubble.
BYU– Loses on the road to San Francisco-83-82. Not a devastating loss but yet BYU is extremely close to being out. Avoiding tough losses from here on out can only help.
ARIZONA– after leading by 22 in the first half, Arizona loses on the road to their rival Arizona St. The loss simply continues a tough to interpret resume for Arizona. The win keeps Arizona St on our consideration list.
STANFORD The Cardinal resume has been weak all season except for the NET ranking. Losing on the road to California 52-50 will not help their resume. Will the NET change much after this game… we will see. Stanford looks like a 8-10 seed team.
MID MAJOR GAMES
COLGATE– Moves to 16-5 on the season with a 79-69 win over American.
