Bubble talk: Feb 10th

The bubble consists of the last 5 teams in the bracket and all the teams under consideration. We have 18 teams on the outside but still on our condsideration board A total of 23 teams on the current bubble. Of course teams on our 8/9/10 seed line could lose and fall onto the bubble.

Wake Forest finds itself on the right side of the bubble for now with an overall record of 18-6. They have only 1 quad one win but have no losses outside of quad 1, have played a good schedule and have a Wins above Bubble ranking of 32. That last metric may be key for selections. Hold back the Demon Deacons is a NET of 59. Wake has two quad 1 opportunities left and must avoid bad losses and they will go dancing

In & Trending down

Texas is our next to last team in the field. The Longhorns have a respectable NET of 31. The are 3-7 in quad 1 and 3-2 in quad 2. The Wins above Bubble ranks them at 43 which is barely in the field. Losers of 3 out of 4, the Longhorns play Alabama and Kentucky at home next. Winning one of these two will keep Texas on the right side of the bubble

Out & Trending up

VCU is a longshot at large team from the A10 conference. They possess a solid NET of 37 with a record of 1-1 in quad 1 and 3-3 in quad 2. They do have a quad 4 loss and a questionable non conference strength of schedule. Their Wins above Bubble sits at 57 which is not high enough yet. The problem for the Rams is opportunities. They would have to get to the A10 final to be considered, but they have won 9 out last 10.

Out & Trending down

North Carolina is 14-11 and has only one quad 1 win. They have a NET as of Monday at 45 and a Wins above Bubble of 47 which puts them just on the cut line. Carolina did beat Pittsburgh to stay in contention for a bid, but followed that up with a big loss at Clemson. With limited opportunities left for the Tar Heels, the Duke game at end of the year and the ACC tournament loom large
