Big East: 2020-21 Preview

The conference finished last season with seven teams in the top 50 in the KenPom rankings. This league is always very competitive and will welcome back UConn to the conference. The Huskies will immediately make an impact on the league and may push the favorites for a spot at the top of the league

Teams that will be in bracket

Villanova

Creighton

Villanova continues to the team to beat. They will be a top 10 team all season nationally. With four starters returning, led by Collin Gillespie, the Wildcats could be a 1 seed come March. Creighton also returns four starters. Point guard Marcus Zegarowski will lead the attack for the Bluejays

Teams that should be in

UCONN

Providence

UConn will come back to the league and immediately be a contender. James Bouknight is a player to watch for the Huskies along with all name team member Akok Akok who is returning from injury. Providence loses some key pieces but always plays tough defense and is poised to make the tourney after a strong second half showing last season

Teams that could be in

Seton Hall

Xavier

St. John’s

Marquette

Butler

Seton Hall is the most likely team to be tourney bound, despite the loss of Myles Powell. St. John’s under Coach Mike Anderson look to move forward as well. Xavier, Marquette and Butler all have been quality programs in past and have several issues to figure out to make a run

Long shots to be in

DePaul

Georgetown

De Paul is getting better but could only muster a 3-15 record in league last season. Georgetown has been hit hard by departures both during last season and in the off season. The Hoyas really need to regroup.

Team that will surprise: St. John’s

Team that will disappoint: Marquette
